VX Underground - Black Mass

About a month ago I purchased Black Mass, which was written and published by those affiliated with VX Underground. VX Underground is a site which hosts a massive repository of educational resources related to cybersecurity free of charge. In particular, the site is known for having the largest publicly available archive of malware samples, writeups, papers, and other similar resources.

Front cover of Black Mass Black Mass is structured similarly to hacker ‘zines such as Phreak. It is effectively a lengthy zine containing numerous code samples, explanations, and editorial prose (similar to blog posts). The code samples are not simple, but they provide great insight into how modern malware works. Overall, this is something that any security researcher will enjoy reading. There is also a second volume available which follows the same format.

Both volumes are made available in .pdf formats free of charge, but I’d suggest supporting their work and purchasing a physical copy to fund their continued efforts. **
